About
We are delighted to announce the Evidence-Based Policing Conference 2026, taking place at the Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge from Monday 13th to Thursday 16th July 2026. The conference theme, 'Beyond Borders: Evidence-Led Solutions for Global Crime and Policing Challenges', reflects the growing international importance of evidence-based approaches to contemporary policing challenges.
This four-day conference also marks the 30th Anniversary of the Police Executive programme – MSt in Applied Criminology & Police Management – first established by Professor Lawrence Sherman, whose work has been central to the development of evidence-based policing globally, including the influential “Triple T” policing theory. To mark this milestone, the conference will bring together 41 speakers across the world to present cutting-edge research and practice across a wide range of policing themes.
The conference will be opened on the first day by Chair, Professor Barak Ariel, who will welcome delegates and set out the key themes for the week. Across the four days, sessions will explore major contemporary issues in policing and criminal justice, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Policing and Crime; Safeguarding and Vulnerable People; Responding to Immigration and Crime; De-Radicalisation and Counterterrorism; lessons from practice in the field of evidence-based policing; deterrence and offender management; and broader questions of police legitimacy, professional conduct, false confession, and interrogation.
The conference will run daily from 09:00 to 17:00 (with Day 1 commencing at 09:45), with structured breaks throughout the day including coffee breaks at 10:30–10:50 and 15:00–15:20, and lunch from 12:30–13:30.
Please note this event will be recorded for marketing and promotional purposes.
On Tuesday 14th July, delegates are invited to a conference dinner at Clare College, beginning with a drink’s reception in Scholar’s Garden at 18:45 followed by dinner in the Great Hall at 19:30.
Tickets for the conference and dinner will be released shortly.
