AIM Programmes

The University run initiatives to support people from underrepresented groups to successfully apply for postgraduate study at Cambridge.

The Institute participates in the AIM applicant support programmes, which offer Home applicants help with preparing their postgraduate application.   

AIM Explore

 

What is AIM: Explore?

The AIM: Explore programme is a free support programme open to applicants to all MPhil and PhD courses who meet the eligibility criteria to help them prepare their application to the University of Cambridge.

Priority will be given to applicants from underrepresented or socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. Support is provided via 2 one-hour online sessions with a current Cambridge PhD student and is tailored to your specific needs.

Please note: The AIM: Explore is separate from the admissions process, and participation in the programme does not guarantee acceptance onto a postgraduate course.

 

AIM PhD

What is AIM: PhD?

The AIM: PhD programme is designed specifically to support applicants from underrepresented groups with their application for doctoral study at the University of Cambridge. 

Over the course of six months (from July 2025 to January 2026), participants will receive tailored support to prepare their PhD application through one-to-one mentoring and online group sessions. They will be supported throughout by University staff and students, including a postgraduate mentor.  

The 2025 programme will support applicants who intend to apply to begin their studies in October 2026.
