Biography
I am a part-time PhD student and also work as an Instructor of Sociology at Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, teaching undergraduates an introduction to sociology. In 2022-2023 I completed a MPhil in Criminology at the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge. Throughout my career I have regularly been involved in research projects covering subjects such as criminal victimisation, socioeconomic wellbeing and cybercrime. While working as a senior consultant at the largest think-tank in Azerbaijan, Social Research Centre, I was part of the team that conducted regular nationwide surveys, as well as qualitative interviews. That period in my career provided significant practice that complemented my theoretical knowledge gained at London School of Economics (MSc in Criminal Justice Policy) and University of Sheffield (BA in Sociology). In addition to my main employment I have also established a commercial online consulting business where I deliver one-to-one lessons to students and professionals who aim to conduct social research and publish its results in peer-reviewed journals. I have published a textbook in the Azerbaijani langauge (Tədqiqat Metodları), which provides an introduction to social research methods. The book has been incorporated into a reading list at several local universities.
My research areas primarily cover victimisation, reporting, bribery and non-custodial sentences, and I employ both quantitative and qualitative methods. As most of my research has covered Azerbaijan the findings contribute to non-Western criminology.
