Institute of Criminology

 

POLICY

The Institute of Criminology welcomes and supports academic initiatives led by PhD, MPhil, and MSt students such as reading groups, student-led seminars and thematic networks, student-led engagement with stakeholders, or student-led conferences etc. They are a valuable contribution to the academic life of the Institute and can help to bring students together.

Student initiatives that wish to be supported by the Institute in some for example with space for events, dissemination of information via the Institute mailing lists, or inclusion on the Institute website need to apply to the Director. Criteria for support are:

  • activities are inclusive, academically relevant, and of wider interest to a broad group of students.
  • at least 10 students actively support the initiative
  • two mentors among the academic staff support the initiative.
  • there is a named responsible person who leads the initiative.
  • full compliance with the University and Institute policies and regulations.

If justified and possible, activities can be supported with up to £300 per year. The Institute may limit the number of initiatives it supports in any given year.
