Biography
Ariadne holds an Msc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Oxford and a BA in Criminology and Social Anthropology from the University of Manchester. Ariadne previously worked in a London-based organisation supporting people transitioning from prison into the community.
In October 2021 Ariadne began her PhD at the Institute of Criminology under the supervision of Dr Caroline Lanskey.
Research
Ariadne's PhD is funded by the Cambridge Trust and the Goulandris Foundation. For her doctoral research she's seeking to uncover the experiences of people who are incarcerated at the same time as family members. She is particularly interested in understanding how family is maintained, performed and created within or between prison institutions. As well as exploring whether joint incarceration alleviates or enhances the pre-existing pains of imprisonment and referred pains of imprisonment. Although this qualitative research focuses on individual subjectivity and experience, it will be grounded in analyses of meso-level institutional processes, and macro-level structural forces that explain why some families are more prone to simultaneous incarceration.
