Institute of Criminology
Rita (they/them) has a BA in Sociology (Human, Social, and Political Sciences) from the University of Cambridge, and they graduated from the Criminological Research MPhil in 2018 with a Distinction. They began their PhD in 2023, which will focus on criminology’s role in producing knowledge that legitimizes the carceral state, abolition, and utopian social theory. Their approach is primarily post-Marxist and post-structuralist. They are loosely affiliated with both the Prison Research Centre and the Justice and Society Research Centre. They are passionate about social justice and working against capitalist realism. In their free time they are convening a Queer Utopian Reading Group, which brings together counter-hegemonic science fiction, social theory, and queer theory.
