Biography
Novindri Aji is an Indonesian-trained attorney (Advokat) specialising in regulatory compliance, financial crimes, and conservation policy. He graduated with first-class honors from the Faculty of Law at the University of Lampung, Indonesia. Subsequently, he received an LLM in International Business and Economics Law from Georgetown University Law Center as an LPDP Scholar.
Currently, he is pursuing a full-time PhD in Criminology under Prof Justice Tankebe’s supervision, researching financial crimes in the environmental sector. His academic path reflects his deep interest in environmental conservation and sustainability issues, which also led him to previously complete a MPhil at the University of Cambridge, focusing on environmental compliance and wildlife crimes as a Cambridge Trust Scholar. Novindri is passionate about bridging the gap between conservation and the legal sectors.
In addition to his academic background, he has ten years of experience in legal practice. Previously, he worked as an Associate in DLA Piper’s Corporate Crimes and Investigations team, and as a Senior Associate at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). He is eligible to practice law in England as a Foreign Registered Lawyer by the SRA. He has also served as a legal consultant at The World Bank in Washington DC and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome.
Research
His PhD research will explore the intersection of environmental crimes and regulatory corruption in Indonesia, with a particular focus on the mining and forestry sectors. He will be investigating how international legal frameworks and standards can be used to combat systemic corruption, improve transparency, and strengthen regulatory enforcement in these industries. His research aims to provide insights into the structural and legal reforms needed to protect Indonesia's natural resources.
