Institute of Criminology

This presentation introduces the topic of transnational environmental crime by defining it, indicating the magnitude, scope, and harms, and identifying the various types from a green criminological perspective. In addition, the criminogenic asymmetries that attract environmental crime networks are examined, the involved actors, the legal-illegal interfaces, and the role of crime convergence. The presentation will conclude with a reflection on the development of ecocentric responses to prevent and react to transnational environmental crime

Daan van Uhm is Associate Professor of Criminology, specializing in Green Criminology, and has conducted research on various forms of environmental crime, including illegal mining in Latin America, wildlife trafficking in Southeast Asia, and deforestation in Central Africa.
