Chief Constable Alan Pughsley QPM, Kent Police

"Professor Lawrence W. Sherman, Chair of the Cambridge Police Executive Programme, invites you to attend a seminar he will host with Chief Constable Alan Pughsley QPM of Kent Police on Thursday, 10th January, 2019 at 5:30 PM at the Cambridge Institute of Criminology.

‘Priorities in Policing: Big Data for Better Decisions’.

The high-profile challenges in policing are high harm but low frequency, such as counter terrorism and organised crime, for which structures and processes are broadly in place. The greater challenge lies in the “core business” of high-volume incidents, from missing persons reports to small property losses to minor violence.  Big Data and advanced analytical techniques can provide a legitimate approach to improved decision making, focusing police resources where they can do the most good. In collaboration with the Cambridge Institute of Criminology, the Kent Police are increasingly using Evidence-Based Investigative Tools (EBITs) to prioritize cases by the level of harm they entail and the likelihood that police action can be effective.

I hope you can join us. The seminar will be followed by a wine and juice reception. M.Phil., PhD and MSt students are especially invited to attend, as are Police and Crime Commissioners and police professionals.

If you can join us, please RSVP your reservation for a seat at this event with Alison Flanagan "
