Visiting Fellows

Visiting Fellows

Generally Visiting Fellows are senior, distinguished academics who wish to spend a period of several months to a year working on a particular research project, often in collaboration with academic staff of the Institute. These are official appointments and must therefore be approved by the Institute's Committee of Management.

Criteria for appointment

  • High academic standing both in teaching and research (or in the case of practitioners, able to demonstrate the applications of research at policy level)
  • Research interests compatible with those of the Institute
  • Planned collaboration with the members of the Institute
  • Where appropriate, the potential to make a contribution to the life of the Institute in the form of a seminar or workshop or other relevant activity
  • We receive a great number of applications and so the success or otherwise of your application may reflect the number of visitors that we have at any one time and the facilities available for the chosen period of attachment

Process

Recommendations must be made through one member of Institute academic staff. Applications should include a covering letter with an outline of the proposed research and proposed dates, a C.V., and if applicable a separate research proposal. Applications should be made at least six months before the intended visit, so that the approval procedure may be completed, and space (which is limited) allocated.
