Institute of Criminology



Sophie holds a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland and is admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, Australia. Supported by scholarships from the Cambridge Trust and Rotary Foundation, Sophie completed the MPhil in Criminological Research at the University of Cambridge with Distinction in 2021. She was named proxime accesserunt to the Institute’s Manuel Lopez Rey Graduate Prize for outstanding performance in the MPhil.


Sophie’s doctoral research is supervised by Professor Loraine Gelsthorpe and funded by a Trinity College Internal Graduate Studentship. It explores the community supervision of individuals released from prison on licence and assessed as being at ‘high risk’ of perpetrating domestic abuse in England and Wales, as it is experienced by both supervisees and supervisors.
