2019 Prisons Research Centre - Annual Research Conference

last modified Oct 21, 2019 10:46 AM
On Thursday 17 - Friday 18 October the Prisons Research Centre held their annual research conference: 'Values, methods and quality in prisons research: developing deep structures of practice'.

The aim of this, now regular, conference is to inspire a loose community of prison scholars from many different countries to think and talk together about some of the most important but somewhat under-articulated aspects of our work, based around a series of themed presentations and panels.

The panels included Paddy Wivell, talking about clips from his powerful documentary series filmed at Durham prison; Richard Harding and Richard Sparks revisiting the question of whether private prisons can be legitimate; Kristian Mjaland, David Maguire and Jamie Bennett reflecting on complex research identities; and many more. Our ongoing dialogue about the process, purpose, direction and professional challenges of good prisons research generated much energy and insight and built on many ongoing collaborations.
