Screening of the film Rattle Snake

Alongside the UN’s campaign to eliminate violence against women and girls, the Centre for Community, Gender and Social Justice will be hosting a screening of Rattle Snake, a play by Open Clasp Theatre Company helping raise awareness of coercive control in relationships. View the trailer here.

Open Clasp is an award-winning women’s theatre company transforming the lives of disadvantaged women and girls. They collaborate with women on the margins of society to create bold, innovative and high quality theatre, shown around the world to raise awareness and train frontline personnel. They are one of the partners of the CCGSJ’s Inspiring Futures Footprint research project.

Rattle Snake premiered in 2017, touring nationally in 2017 and 2018 and was named Best New Play of 2017- North East (British Theatre Guide) and the Writer of the Year award (Journal Culture Awards) 2018 went to writer Catrina McHugh. “Spine tingling and visceral, Rattle Snake will literally take your breath away. An epic tale based on real life stories of women who have faced and survived coercive controlling domestic abuse.”

There will be time after the screening to discuss the film and the themes it highlights, followed by refreshments.

Location: B3, Institute of Criminology, Sidgwick Site, University of Cambridge.

Time: 5:30pm – 7pm (followed by refreshments)

Entry: is free. All are welcome

If you are unable to make the screening the film can be watched online between 25 November and 10 December.
